The Cal. T.B. - 133 Test
The CAL 133 test is designed to evaluate the resistance of seating furniture for use in public occupancies to open-flame ignition. The ignition source, a square gas burner, is positioned on the seat area of the chair. The pass/fail criteria monitored during the burn are based on heat release rate, carbon monoxide volume, smoke and materials burned; they include:
1. A maximum rate of heat release of 80 kilowatts or greater.
2. A total heat release of 25 mega joules or greater in the first 10 minutes of the test.
3. Greater than 75 percent smoke opacity at the 4-ft level.
4. Carbon monoxide concentration of 1000 ppm or greater in the first 10 minutes of the test.
5. Weight loss due to combustion of 3 lb or greater in the first 10 minutes of the test.
6. Temperature increase of 200 degrees or greater at the ceiling.
7. Temperature increase of 50 degrees or greater at the 4-ft level.
